food distribution.

ECHO’s food distribution program is a vital part of our mission to combat food insecurity in Erwin and the surrounding rural areas. On the third Monday of each month, we gather in the old Erwin Mill parking lot to distribute fresh produce, pantry staples, and other essential food items to families in need. Through partnerships with food banks, grocery stores, and local farmers, we ensure that those facing hunger have access to nutritious meals. Volunteers play a key role in this effort, helping to pack, bag, and distribute food while offering kindness and encouragement to those we serve.

More than just providing food, our distribution events are an opportunity to build relationships and offer spiritual support. The first thing we ask every person who arrives is, “How can I pray with you?” because we believe in caring for both physical and spiritual needs. Each month, we serve over 150 families, and as the need grows, so does our commitment to expanding this outreach. By working together as a community, we can continue to provide hope, nourishment, and dignity to those who need it most.

nutrition & cooking classes.

ECHO’s nutrition and cooking classes work hand in hand to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to make healthier food choices and prepare nutritious meals. Our nutrition classes focus on meal planning, reading food labels, and making budget-friendly, wholesome choices, while our cooking classes provide hands-on instruction in preparing simple, healthy dishes. By combining education with practical experience, we help individuals and families gain confidence in the kitchen and develop long-term habits that promote wellness and self-sufficiency.

Class details will be announced on our Facebook page as they become available.

special events.

In addition to our ongoing ministries, ECHO hosts special events that foster both physical and spiritual well-being in our community. Our Health Fair provides free medical screenings, wellness resources, and educational workshops on topics such as nutrition, mental health, preventative care, and fitness. By partnering with local healthcare providers and organizations, we aim to connect individuals with essential services that promote long-term health and self-sufficiency.

Our Ecumenical Worship Service, held once a year at Erwin Memorial Cemetery, is a time for churches of all denominations to come together in unity and worship. This gathering reflects ECHO’s mission to serve beyond theological differences and focus on what unites us—our shared commitment to loving and caring for our neighbors. These special events strengthen our community by providing both practical support and spiritual connection, reinforcing our belief that we are stronger together.
